Thank God for Grandpa!

What do you know, sometimes pop-culture is valuable.  Jay Leno does a "man on the street" segment called Jaywalking.  In the episode below, Jay asks people basic questions about Independence Day.  As you might expect, they had no clue about our country's founding at the most basic level.  Quite sad really.

There is a college instructor who could not answer the most basic questions about our founder's fight for independence.

Toward the end of the video an African-American father, mother, then their son are questioned by Jay.  They fail miserably.  However, when grandpa is asked to help, he answers all of the questions easily.

This tells us a lot.  This elderly, African-American gentleman probably attended a segregated school and lived under Jim Crow laws for a large portion of his life.  He has a fundamental knowledge of US history that his children and grandchildren do not.  In the mother's words, they "have no clue."

Over 90% of the people in the US have been educated in the public school systems.  How can something so basic not be taught in our public schools?  This failure spans generations, as illustrated in the Jaywalking video.

We need to take control of our schools through Public Charter Schools and other forms of parental choice within the public education framework.

IT IS TIME FOR THEM TO LEAD!!
